AjPHA Youth World Show Qualifying Requirement Eliminated for 2014

FORT WORTH—The American Paint Horse Association (APHA) Executive Committee announced the elimination of the qualifying requirements for horses beginning for the 2014 AjPHA Youth World Championship Paint Horse Show.

Introduced in 2011 to encourage entries to shows produced by APHA Regional Clubs, qualifying for APHA World Shows is achieved strictly through participation.

The change in policy came in response to input from leadership committees and member feedback after two years’ worth of evaluation. Since the Youth World Show is held in June, the April 1 – March 31 qualifying period for the Youth meant that many young exhibitors who acquired horses over the winter months were unable to attend enough events to meet the participation requirements.

“We anticipate that eliminating qualifying beginning at our 2014 Youth World Show will have a positive effect on entry numbers,” said APHA Executive Director Billy Smith.

The 2014 Youth World Show is scheduled for June 28 through July 5 in Fort Worth, Texas.

Paid entries for the 2013 Youth World Show remained stable compared to 2012, while entries into the AjPHA/ApHC World Championship Judging Contest were the largest since 2009 with 234 youth judgers and 56 teams.

This policy reversal is effective only for the Youth World Show. Qualifying by participation is still required for the Open/Amateur World Championship Show. You can view full details about APHA’s qualifying requirements and verify a horse’s eligibility online at http://oawcs.apha.com/qualifiers.
