What could the younger horse show crowd possibly teach the more experienced and older exhibitor? We asked 15 successful youth riders to share their green show perspectives and give their best educated, enlightened and anonymous advice to the more mature exhibitor.

1. “Whether you win the class, get in the top ten, or not place at all, you will always learn something. No matter how you and your horse perform, you can always look back and learn from your experience. This is no such thing as losing–only learning.”

2. “Pat and scratch on your horses more. They love all that kind of attention. You need to reward a good horse and motivate an okay horse to be better.”

3. “Smile. People are watching you and wanting to be you some day. Try to make it seem fun or else we won’t want to show when we are your age.”

4. “For the men, I would like to say mix up your shirts and not wear the same one or same color all the time. For the women, I think some wear a bit too much makeup sometimes–especially lipstick.”
