Western Riding Added to APHA HorseIQ Training Library

APHA.com

Intricate footwork, control and precision are key in Western riding as horse and rider move through a pattern that entails numerous lead changes, crossing over a log, and maneuvering around markers at a reasonable speed. For a judge, the class presents a challenge, requiring attention to detail and knowledge of penalties.

With the addition of Western riding to the HorseIQ Library, judges and exhibitors alike can expand their knowledge of this challenging class. Use these videos from the 2017 APHA World Championship Show to further understand the scoring system of Western riding, from the subtleties that determine a maneuver score to the mistakes that lead to penalties.

Additionally, you’ll find links to view the judges’ scorecards from the World Show event, providing you a way to compare your scores to how the judges scored the class.

Log in or subscribe to HorseIQ to access the new library of resources. Check back in future weeks as additional classes and resources are added to the library.

HorseIQ is APHA’s innovative online learning platform, designed to help judges and exhibitors alike understand APHA class rules and brush up on their skills. APHA members receive discounted access to this program—to get started, sign up for HorseIQ at horseiq.com.
