From WCHA
Dear WCHA Futurity Participants,
As you know our weanling and yearling halter futurities have grown by leaps and bounds the past 5 years, you’ve been breeding hundreds of halter mares to stallions enrolled in WCHA Breeders and Big Money Futurities with dreams of “cashing in” on the lucrative purses we’ve been paying out. But I wanted to take this opportunity to explain another goal we’re working on………… to give your older horses a venue other than world show competition meaningful classes to compete within !!!
For the past decade our weekend breed shows have being declining in size, our numbers in our world championship breed shows are declining as well in both numbers and amount of purse monies that can be won. Many of us remember when it was common to have 25-60 horses in our 2 yr old, 3 yr old and aged classes and it was an accomplishment to be in the top ten. Times have changed, however we need to address the alarming fact that we raise hundreds of quality weanlings each and every year but by the time these horses turn 2 their value is declining rapidly. After their yearling year only the very top horses can survive the small numbers in our world show classes so where do our “middle” horses go to compete?
So this is the concept of “why” we implemented our “Limited Two Yr Old” and our “Limited Three Yrs & Over” halter stakes classes. We’ve given these “middle” horses a venue to compete without competing against horses that have won world championship titles………. Granted the purses have been “just okay” to this point but this year we’re adding over $50,000 to these older classes with the WCHA Breeder’s and the Big Money Futurities. I really encourage you to participate in support of our older horses.
Here are the rules and conditions:
Exceptions: Horses that have won SPB, Solid Color Class, Youth or AQHA Level 2 or Select World Titles. Furthermore any horse who has won a world title in APHA-ApHC-AQHA “as a weanling” can still compete as a limited horse within these limited classes.
WE are offering 3 different futurities for these older horses to compete in Fort Worth during our HALTER MILLION………… ONE LOCATION, ONE STALL AND OVER $50,000 ADDED MONEY.
********** Within the River Oaks Ranch Halter Stakes EVERY Competitor Will Receive A Payback !!!!!!!!!!!!
I want to personally thank our sponsors of these older classes………. June Rhea/River Oaks Ranch and also Warren & Laurie English, with their support we can work toward providing longevity to our beautiful “older” conformation horses.
