Filed under: Club & Show News,Club and Show News,Featured |

Don’t forget that the WCHA Ranch Versatility Stakes will once again be held with the WCHA Breeder’s Championship Futurity and APHA World Show, Sept 24- 27, 2020. There have been a few changes from 2019, including more added money!

The first option for entry is July 1st for both stakes classes.

All Age Stakes Class: Competitors can compete in as many divisions as they qualify for. (For example: A non-pro rider can compete in non-pro, open, WCHA bred, and also have a maiden horse.)

  1. Open Division: Horses of all ages sired by any stallion – Open or non pro rider
  2. Non Pro Division: Horses of all ages sired by any stallion –  Non pro competitors
  3. WCHA Bred Division: Horses of all ages sired by a stallion that was ever nominated into the WCHA Futurity Program. Over 250 stallions have been nominated, so there is plenty to choose from. There is $2,500 added money allocated to this division. There is also an additional incentive to ride a WCHA bred horse. If the horse is a maiden, or never competed in performance event prior to this class, it pays a $500 bonus.
  4. All breeds are welcome.
  5. Compete in a Pattern, Ranch Horse Pleasure, and Conformation class. Each has equal value in the final placings.
  6. AQHA rules apply in all situations. Read the rules.
  7. Both the owner and exhibitor must be WCHA members.

Two Year Old Prospect Class: $1,000 slot class with 100% going into the purse, plus $5,000 added money.

  1. Purchase a slot by July 1st and name the horse by August 24th.
  2. Slots can be resold, but you must notify WCHA within 10 days.
  3. The horse must be sired by a participating WCHA stallion.
  4. Halter Bred Stallions who have never been nominated into the WCHA Program can be nominated into just the Versatility Division for $500.
  5. All breeds are welcome.
  6. Owner and exhibitor must be WCHA members.
  7. AQHA rules apply.
  8. Three phases of competition: Pattern, Ranch Pleasure, and Conformation. Each phase has equal emphasis in scoring. Prizes and payouts within each leg of competition.
  9. Open or non pro exhibitors with prizes or money for the highest placing non pro.

The three phases of competition will be run over two days for both stakes classes. The pattern will be held one day and rail followed by conformation class on the other day. The classes will run on Sept 25, 26, or 27th. The final schedule has not been set.

“I want to thank our WCHA Versatility Ranch Committee members for their work on putting these classes together,” says WCHA Executive Director Don Falcon. “I also want to thank Steve, Kathy, and Sarah Headley for their generous sponsorship that will most certainly make it worth participating in. Also, we want to thank Steve Meadows for donating his time and expertise in an upcoming clinic for both beginner and advanced riders: $275 for two days. All proceeds will go toward the purses of our Ranch Versatility Classes. Email falconranch@earthlink.net for a spot.
