The 2014 Zoetis AQHA Versatility Ranch Horse and John Deere AQHA Cowboy Mounted Shooting world championships kicked off the first day of competition yesterday in Houston. Classes began at 3 p.m. in the Reliant Arena, with amateur and open ranch conformation, followed by amateur and open ranch cutting.

This year’s event runs March 19-21 in Houston as part of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. Following the world championships, on March 22 will be a Zoetis AQHA Ranching Heritage Challenge, presented by Bar G Feedyard.

The Zoetis VRH and John Deere CMS worlds are events for American Quarter Horse owners and exhibitors around the world, who must qualify by earning a predetermined number of points to compete. More than 120 entries from 21 states, as well as Canada, are competing for six world championships and a purse of $82,000 in cash and awards at this year’s event.
