PMG release by: Emily Riden The Virginia Horse Center is going to the dogs this weekend. From Friday, January 9 to Sunday, January 11 the Dog Owners Training Club (DOTC) of Lynchburg and the Star City Canine Training Club (SCCTC) are co-hosting three days of AKC Agility Trials at the Horse Center.

The doors to the Anderson Coliseum will open Friday morning, and the trials will run 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. each day through Sunday.  Parking and admission to the agility trials are free, and the public is encouraged to attend.

The three-day agility trials will offer a variety of classes throughout the weekend including Standard (STD), Jumpers With Weaves (JWW) and Fifteen and Send Time (FAST).

For those new to agility, STD classes consist of a numbered course including obstacles such as seesaws, jumps, pause tables and tunnels. This style of class is most commonly what is thought of when referring to dog agility. JWW classes narrow the obstacles down to jumps and weave poles, allowing speed and jumping ability to take center stage.  FAST classes consist of fifteen obstacles that are to be completed, as well as a “send bonus” which is a distance obstacle for bonus points.

All four types of classes offer exciting spectating opportunities for the public, and there will be lots of action, as an estimated 660 runs will be taking place in the Anderson Coliseum each day.
