UK Ag Equine Programs to Host Inaugural Horsey Hustle 5K

University of Kentucky’s Ag Equine Programs will host an inaugural Horsey Hustle 5K April 3 at Coldstream Park in Lexington, Kentucky, beginning at 2 p.m. ET. A virtual component is also available. Proceeds from the event will benefit the program’s Student Experience and Applied Education Fund.

“This is a fun, new event developed and organized by equine science and management students. Importantly, all of the proceeds will directly benefit our Student Experience and Applied Education Fund, a program that funds equine-related student enrichment activities and initiatives,” said James MacLeod, director of UK Ag Equine Programs in the College of Agriculture, Food and Environment. “You can run or walk, organize a team or bring friends and family members. Spring is the perfect time for outdoor activities, so please join us and support our students.”

Registration is $25 until March 15 and includes a T-shirt. Registration goes up to $30 after March 15. Those wishing to participate can register up until the day of the event. Teams can be formed, and groups of five or more get a $2.50 discount per participant. Virtual registration is also available for $18. For those who are unable to attend, but still want to support students in the program, there is a way to donate from the registration page.

“I am so excited to present the first ever UK Horsey Hustle 5K. Please join us on Sunday, April 3 to support our program and the students in it,” said Madelyn Leahey, a sophomore and part of the equine student ambassador group organizing the event.

“This event is really neat as it’s being put on by students to support a fund that provides financial assistance for equine student experiences and needs. The Wildcat Wrangler team has done an awesome job planning past events such as UK Equine Week of Service and Spring into Service, so I’m very excited to support this endeavor with them,” said Kristen Wilson, academic coordinator for UK Ag Equine Programs.
