This afternoon at the All American Quarter Horse Congress celebrated limited exhibitors as they competed in both Hunter Under Saddle and Western Pleasure aboard their two-year-old equine counterparts. First up, Troy Lehn rode Pretty Assets to win his first ever Congress Championship title in the NSBA 2-Year-Old Open Hunter Under Saddle Stakes Limited division finals. Lehn was in the irons for owner Alexandra Chavez.
The Reserve Champion in the class was Kelly Woodlief with WF Big Asset. Third place was Jamie Murrow with Al Be On Fire. Fourth place was Heidi Piper with The Party Bus. Fifth place was Kristy Starnes with Don’t Doubt This.
Sixth place was Tanya Green with One Hot Ironman. Seventh place was Kim Kennedy with Cloaked in Honor. Eighth place was Carolyn La Rose with The Mile High Club. Ninth place was Karla Friedli with The Next To Escape. Tenth place was Jennifer Burton with KWF Hell I’m Good.
In the NSBA Two-Year-Old Non Pro Western Pleasure Stakes Limited division finals, Angela Fox rode Lookin Good In Red to win her second major title of the year. Just a month ago, Fox and “Glenda” were named NSBA World Champions as well.
“Glenda is by VS Code Red and out of a mare that Jason [Martin] and Charlie [Cole] raised, called Goody Goody Gumdrops. They were nice enough to let me lease the mare after my two-year-old colicked. He is doing better now, and we can start riding him when we come home from the Congress. They are so good to me, so I’m happy to win. It’s exciting.”
Fox is a Congress veteran, in all-around events, but this was her first time competing in Western Pleasure at the Congress. We wondered how she felt about the fact that she was the unanimous choice of the judges this afternoon.
“I love that part!” she says. “That’s fantastic and super exciting. Glenda is super natural and easy to ride. She is so cadenced and has a lot of self carriage, so she makes it easy on us. Her lope is definitely her strong suit.”
Later on at the Congress, Fox will show her all-around horse, The Company You Keep, in Amateur Horsemanship, Showmanship, Equitation, and Performance Halter Geldings. Now that she’s conquered Western Pleasure, the rest will be a piece of cake. “I was telling them that I’m so intimidated by Western Pleasure that Showmanship will be so much easier for me now! That was too much…”
The Reserve Champion was Aaron Bovos with UF Rockin The House. Third place was Justin Voge with Bestdippednchocolate. Fourth place was Candice Hall with Hawaiian Honey. Fifth place was Courtney Chown with Shezreallybuckinhot.
Sixth place was Alex Chavez with Good Like Jagger. Seventh place was Hayley Saul with A Soxy Dream. Eighth place was Mallory Vroegh with This Ty Rocks. Ninth place was Justin Arrington with I Will Be A Good RV. Tenth place was Liz Long with RR Sudden Moonlite.
