Trendy Tuesday at 2013 AQHYA World Show: “Golden Goddess”

During the Western Riding finals earlier this week, 14-year-old Deanna Green of Pilot Point, Texas was a vision in gold with a very special outfit that we thought might make the perfect addition to our Trendy Tuesday series. Green piloted 6-year-old mare Blazinmytroublesaway, aka “Buttercup,” to a Reserve World Champion finish in Youth Western Riding with an impressive score of 234.5.

Equally as brilliant as her run was her stunning outfit, an entirely gold and white creation made by custom show clothing designer Paula Diuri.

“The Youth World is my first time wearing my new gold clothes,” she says. “Paula Diuri was responsible for my whole outfit. My chaps actually have removable fringe that Paula dipped in gold paint. My horse was the inspiration for my chaps, because she is golden herself.”

“Paula searched for the hide for about a month. She found this one, and I thought it could be really cool. I’m planning on wearing my chaps in the Western Pleasure finals with a different top that Paula has designed for me.”

The long search was well worth it though, because the shimmer of Green’s special chaps perfectly matches Buttercup’s Palomino coat.

“Gordon Downey deserves a lot of credit for the gold idea,” she says. “He has always referred to Buttercup as ‘the golden goddess of western pleasure,’ and I guess that’s how it all started!”

Might this dynamic duo be looking for a golden trophy to match their golden outfit? Green and Buttercup still have another shot as they will compete in the Western Pleasure finals early Thursday morning.
