The sudden death of beloved Veterinarian Kathleen Lennon on March 13, 2023, shocked and saddened the horse community. To honor her memory and benefit future veterinarians, in addition to raising awareness about causes like Not One More Vet, An Equine Production and the Indiana Quarter Horse Youth Association produced a benefit at the April IQHYA Show at the C Bar C in Cloverdale, Indiana.
The benefit in honor of Dr. Kathleen Lennon funded a scholarship in her name at the Purdue College of Veterinary Medicine.
12 teams were auctioned off Calcutta style for The Trainer Challenge, and when it was all done, $20,000 was raised for the scholarship.
“It is an amazing number for an amazing young lady. It will help future veterinarians. We could write and write thank you comments for days and weeks. But we will just say it simply – wow!” says Kathy Avolt of An Equine Production. “I would really like to give a shout out to the buyers as they donated their purchases back into the pot.”
The winning trainer team, Austin Gooding and Houston Huff, was purchased by Sarah Lebsock and other ‘investors!’ Austin had this to say about the benefit: “I rode the pleasure and my teammate Houston Huff rode in the horsemanship. I always enjoy doing different, fun things like this, but this one was extra special since it was a fundraiser for a scholarship in the late Kathleen Lennon’s name.”
Thank you to everyone for participating and donating, to Ryan Geiger Photography for the photos, and especially to An Equine Production for producing this very special event.
