Tom Powers Christmas Challenge Welcomes Competitors to New WEC Ocala Facility

It might be taking place in a different location and during a different time than usual, but the Tom Powers Futurity is kicking off in Ocala, Florida at the brand new, World Equestrian Center-Ocala. The event will take place December 12-20th.

Move-in Day is on Saturday, December 12th, beginning at 9 am. Pre-Futurity classes will take place Sunday and Monday, December 13th and 14th. The 40th Anniversary Triple Challenge Party will take place Monday, December 14th at the Golden Ocala Country Club. Tuesday, December 15th is a day off at the show. Futurity classes will take place December 16th-20th.

Judges for the show will be:

Sunday and Monday- Mike Carter, Charlene Carter, Murray Griggs, Jill Newcomb Griggs

Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday- Melissa Dukes, TW Grose, Mary Luther, Daren Wright

Saturday and Sunday– John Dean, April Devitt, Jonathan Meilleur, Steve Stephens

Please pay attention to the COVID-19 show policies listed below:

  • The City of Ocala encourages, but does not mandate face coverings. That will be the show’s policy as well.
  • Color-coded wristbands will be available at the show to wear at all times, even while showing.

Green: “I’m ok with hugs.”

Yellow: “I’m good with talking but not touching.”

Red: “I’m keeping my distance. Please respect my choice.”

  • In addition, face coverings will be strongly encouraged in the show office. A maximum of two people at a time will be allowed in the show office and face coverings will be expected. The show office staff will be wearing face coverings.
  • Sanitizer will be available.
  • Exhibitors will be asked to register online and to make your own copies just outside of the show office.
  • The show will take place outside as much as possible.
  • The barns have high ceilings, large aisles, and stalls with great ventilation.
  • All 80 stall barns are divided by sections into nine stalls maximum.
  • The stalls, barns, arena, and showgrounds are large and highly ventilated. It will allow everyone to practice as much social distancing, as they wish.
  • We expect all our horse show friends to be respectful and caring of each other.

Western Pleasure Super Sires classes will take place at the show with $5,000 to the winner of each class. Classes include the Nutrena Yearling Non Pro Western Pleasure Longe Line, 2-Year-Old Open Western Pleasure, The Equine Chronicle 3-Year-Old Non Pro and Limited Non Pro Western Pleasure, 4 and 5-Year-Old Non Pro Trail, and Pulse Vet Yearling Non Pro  Hunter Under Saddle Longe Line.
