Third Time’s a Charm: Kaylee Rampey and One Hot Amigo Win Performance Halter Geldings at 2013 AQHYA World Show

Judges, Tim Finkenbinder, Steve Ferguson, James Heird, Kim Myers, and John Pipkin, all agreed that the unanimous winner of the Performance Halter Geldings at the 2013 AQHYA World Show was One Hot Amigo with Kaylee Rampey at the lead.
Rampey’s 11-year-old gelding, “Amigo,” is by Zippo Hot Pine and out of Amiga Leaguer. The duo bested 30 other qualifiers to take home the golden globe and World Champion title. Although Amigo has recently reached double digits, don’t let his age fool you.
“He’s very fun, and he likes to play,” Rampey says. “He likes to be the show-off a lot.”
Rampey says she could definitely tell that Amigo enjoyed being named first in the class today. The pair is off to a great start at this Youth World, but their journey is far from over. A true performance halter gelding, Amigo will be showing off his skills in jumping events in the coming days.
“I’m going to show all of the jumping,” she says. “I’ll show Working Hunter, Equitation Over Fences, Hunter Hack, Hunter Under Saddle, and Equitation. I show him in everything. My mom is my jumping trainer, and my halter trainers are Wayne and Rebecca Halvorson.”
Rampey says this win, which is her first World Championship title, is very special for several reasons, particularly because of the significance of the number three. Rampey’s grandmother proudly informed us that the talented 13-year-old was named Rookie of the Year in 2011 and has placed third at the Youth World for the past two years. After Grandpa and Dad both led Amigo to World Champion wins at the Select AQHA World Show and AQHA World Show, Rampey was eager to be World Champion number three.
“We say three is our lucky number,” she says. “That’s because I just turned 13 and it’s 2013 and it’s my third Youth World.”
“My brother wants to start showing halter too. I don’t mind sharing with family. I tell my Grandpa what to do sometimes.”
Grandpa was quick to confirm that Rampey is in fact his mini “horse trainer,” and she is very helpful when giving advice.
The Reserve World Champion in this class was Mark Mowbray with A Good Storm. Coming in third place, and also the first place Intermediate Champion, was Natalia Devencenty with KM Boalicious.
