It’s often been said that a jack-of-all-trades is a master of none. Well, Kathy Avolt certainly turns that phrase on its head as the boss lady at An Equine Production, a show management company that operates over 120 horse shows a year.

Most days, she’s the friendly and fun (and occasionally sarcastic) voice you hear over the loudspeaker presenting results, calling the next class, or encouraging you to clear the arena at the end of the lunch break. Other days, she’s a member of the office staff, back gate personnel, judge’s scribe, pattern designer, chief hiring officer, and travel agent.

For a lady who wears so many different hats, she certainly wears them well. Under her guidance, AEP events have developed a reputation for seamless production, timely schedules, prompt reporting, and fantastic service. But Kathy is the first to recognize that managing a horse show is a lot like raising a child–it takes a village–and she has a great team behind the scenes that helps everything run smoothly: John Boxell, Tracy Willis, Brenda Dunbar, Jarrett Cartee, Casey Lamberton, Courtney Parmenter, Lisa Lee, Allie Board, Dawn Duryea, John McDonald, Ryan Sedlacek, Jasper Breitenbach, and Barbara Rea.

“I have an amazing group of people and friends who work alongside me every weekend,” Kathy says. “I may be the face of the company, but without each person in the trenches with me, our success would not be possible.”

An Unlikely Beginning
