The National Cutting Horse Association (NCHA), in partnership with Western Bloodstock, has announced The Showdown in Cowtown, two new slot cuttings that will run in conjunction with the 2015 Great American Insurance NCHA Summer Cutting Spectacular and the 2015 NCHA World Championship Futurity. These events will offer riders in three divisions – Open, Non-Pro and Amateur — a shot at cashing in on what could be the biggest paychecks of their cutting careers.

The first slot cutting will be open to horses ages 4 to 6 that are entered in the 2015 NCHA Summer Cutting Spectacular. The second slot cutting during the NCHA Futurity will be open to any horse age 4 and up. Based on selling 100 slots in each division, the Open Champions will receive $100,000, the Non-Pro Champions $60,000 and the Amateur Champions $30,000 in each. There will be only 100 slots sold in each division. Each division will consist of one go-round and a 20-horse finals. All 20 places in each division will be paid with 20th place receiving twice the cost of the slot fee. In the event of a tie, there will be a work-off to determine a champion. The go-round for the Summer Showdown in Cowtown will be at the Silverado Arena, Weatherford, Texas, July 9-10, with the finals to take place at the Will Rogers Memorial Center (dates to be announced). December’s slot cutting will be held at the Will Rogers Memorial Center (dates to be announced).

“I want to thank Jeremy and Candace Barwick and Western Bloodstock for bringing a slot cutting into our sport as a great addition for multiple reasons,’ said NCHA Executive Director Jim Bret Campbell. “First of all, from a competitor’s and owner’s standpoint, it’s going to offer huge payouts and give those horses an even greater chance at increasing their earnings. Second, these events will feature some of NCHA’s greatest horses and riders and will be incredible to watch. The Showdown will offer a great avenue for us to promote our sport and both Triple Crown events. We look forward to the possibilities this concept will introduce.”

Slot Purchases:

Slots for the summer Showdown in Cowtown will be available June 1. Once purchased, the owner retains that slot forever as long as the annual slot fee is paid. Slots are transferrable. Each owner may only possess one slot in each division; however, an owner can purchase a slot(s) owned by someone else from year-to-year. An Open rider may own a slot and show a horse owned by another slot owner in the Open division.

To purchase slots, contact Western Bloodstock (818) 594-9210; www.westernbloodstock.com.
