A big congratulations goes out to Emily Miller and Willy Has Potential on their win last night in the Limited Division of the Congress NSBA Maturity Non-Pro Hunter Under Saddle Stakes. You might remember Miller as one of the equestriennes who was featured in our article, “Riding and Showing While Expecting… At the Congress.“
Could she have the first unborn child to win a Congress title? In any case, we would like to celebrate this exciting achievement with Emily and the soon-to-be-born Taylor Kathryn Miller.
“Literally, no words can describe this feeling,” Emily Miller says. “This is my first time to come to the Congress since 1997, when I was in youth. I was hoping to make the finals, much less be a Congress Champion! Honestly, the way the cards were, I was thinking I’d maybe get top five. Then, when it got down to fifth, then fourth, then third, then second, my heart rate went from way up high to completely low. I leaned down and gave him the biggest hug. It was a really emotional moment.”
“The crazy part is Taylor kicked twice right then, so I grabbed my stomach. I’m a little emotional right now anyways!”
Miller’s other half, Brit Miller, hasn’t arrived at the show yet, but he was definitely here in spirit. His trip to the Congress this year will be the first time to watch his wife compete.
“He was so happy,” she says. “He said, ‘Are you going to do that again when I’m there?’ I told him it wasn’t quite that predictable! I was just happy I had a great ride. There were a lot of really great horses out there. The competition was tough, and I’m a novice.”
Miller will compete once again this Sunday in the Non-Pro Open Division Finals of the class. Willy Has Potential will be shown by Beth Case in the Open Hunter Under Saddle Maturity and Junior Hunter Under Saddle today.
“That’s why I’m kind of on edge today,” she says. “He is the sweetest horse I’ve owned in my life, and I’m so excited for them both. When we go around on the rail, he always keeps his ears forward. He knows his job.”
Congratulations to Miller and Highpoint Performance Horses on this exciting win. We wish them the best of luck throughout the rest of the show.
