We are saddened to announce the passing of The Born Legacy, aka “Dutch,” who graced our March/April 2018 cover, and who had an indelible impact on the AQHA and APHA industry.
The 2013 bay AQHA stallion by Good I Will be and out of Pretty Hot And Sonny (By Hot Pretense out of Sociable War Beauty), owned by Alexandra Chavez of Chavez Enterprises, LLC, made his mark as a Congress Reserve Champion, an NSBA World Champion, an AQHA Reserve World Champion, and a past AQHA High Point Stallion.
As a sire, he was thrilling the industry with his offspring, especially with horses like Waffle House, (out of BestSeatNTheHouse), who has recently been proclaimed one of the most decorated Western pleasure horses in the industry.
Dutch’s color genetics included the W20 gene, which put him on the map as an APHA sire as well.
Alexandra Chavez purchased Dutch his two-year-old year after she watched Karen Hornick ride him, falling in love with his movement. He claimed his first title to fame in 2016 with a Reserve Championship in the Hylton Maiden Western Pleasure and followed it up with a 2017 World Championship in NSBA Performance Halter Stallions, the same year his first foal crop arrived. He went on to build his winning record and ensued with an impressive career as a sire.
Our deepest condolences extend to Alexandra Chavez and Andrew Sharp, and all whose lives have been impacted by this once-in-a-lifetime sire.
Somewhere

Somewhere . . . in time’s own space, there must be some sweet, pastured place
Where creeks sing on – and tall trees grow, some paradise where horses go,
For by the love that guides my pen, I know great horses live again.
