Continuing with their focus of creating opportunities for exhibitors to learn and grow within their respective equestrian disciplines, the American Paint Horse Association has just unveiled an innovative program that will allow exhibitors to test their skills against carded judges via an online video system called Horse IQ.

Taking the reins of the program’s creation was APHA Director of Judges David Dellin, who sought expertise from a group of professional horseman and judges to create the helpful video modules. Markel APHA Professional Horsemen Robin Frid and Bruce Walquist as well as APHA judge Carly Veldman Parks and John Briggs assisted with the creation of the first two videos: Trail and Horsemanship.

“This is a one of a kind delivery system for anyone wanting to become a better exhibitor or judge,” Dellin says. “We’re starting with Trail and Horsemanship, with many more disciplines to come as soon as we can finish producing them. I’m very excited to be able to have this product for all parties interested in showing horses.”

According to APHA, Horse IQ was designed to give competitors an inside look at how classes are judged by reviewing rules, explaining penalty and maneuver scores, and putting that knowledge into practice with video modules that illustrate the concepts.

“Horse IQ puts the potential for improvement at your fingertips. Each module focuses on one discipline; watch video examples with explanations of penalties and maneuver scores, judge a class online with ‘reasons’ by an official judge, and put your skills to the test by judging numerous runs and comparing your scores to official APHA World Show judges’ scorecards. Horse IQ viewers receive the same information taught to carded judges at their annual educational seminars.” – APHA

The first two video modules, Trail and Horsemanship, are now available online and many more disciplines are in the works. To join Horse IQ, visit aphahorseiq.com. Subscription fees cost $6.99 a month for current APHA members and $9.99 a month for non-menbers.
