TCU Equestrian Defeats Delaware State, 8-2

SPRINGTOWN, Texas – No. 8 TCU wrapped up competition against Delaware State Sunday afternoon, cruising to an 8-2 decision in Hunt Seat action at Turning Point Ranch.

With their 8-2 victory Sunday, the Horned Frogs, now 5-3 on the season, dominated the Hornets to the tune of 15-3 between the two day’s of competition. The win moved the Horned Frogs to 3-1 all-time in Stock Show Duels and improved the Frogs record to 4-1 at home this season.

On Sunday, TCU claimed both MOP accolades, which allowed the Frogs to sweep Delaware State in MOP honors for the weekend. By doing so, the Frogs captured all four MOP’s for the first time this season in a meet.

“Our coaching staff is very excited about our performance over the past three days,” said TCU Director of Equestrian Haley Schoolfield. “To have a dominant score and to win four Most Outstanding Player Awards against an up and coming Delaware State squad was an exciting way to start the spring season.”

On the day, TCU routed the Hornets, outscoring them to the tune of 755-696. It was a day of firsts as sophomore Taylor Alexander earned her first MOP of the season, while freshman Kari Hancock captured MOP accolades in her first collegiate ride. Sophomore Emily Guhde also came out in style, posting the highest score on the Flat with an 80.

In Equitation on the Flat, the Frogs simply dominated competition, sweeping DSU, 5-0. Caitlin Ader got the Purple and White going, downing Caroline Schock, 70-65. Hancock and Nicole Diamantis were also successful, upending Heather Hotz and Emily Fick, respectively. With the win, Hancock, a freshman from Alaska, improved to 1-0 on the year and posted her first MOP of her young career. Molly Peddicord was also successful, dropping Carlin Savage, 69-59. Guhde secured the sweep for the Frogs, defeating Hayley Jeske, 80-74.

Alexander put the Frogs on the board in Equitation over Fences, riding May to an 81-65 victory over Schock. With the win, the Colorado native posted her first MOP and third win of the young season. Peddicord continued her winning ways over Fences, downing Jeske, 77-75, to move to 2-0 on the day. Finally, Kaitlin Perry claimed her third win of the season in Equitation over Fences, dropping Hotz, 78-73.

Ader, who on Friday dropped a first round decision to Oklahoma State’s Samantha Elser at the Fifth Annual Collegiate Equitation Challenge in Wellington, Fla., appeared to have scored a point for the Frogs in the discipline, but came up short, falling to Fick.

TCU will continue action this spring on Saturday, Feb. 15 at No. 2 Baylor. The Horned Frogs will look to move to 3-1 in Big 12 play this season.
