Our sincerest condolences go out to Darcy Reeve and the entire clan at High Point Performance Horses following the passing of well-known, AQHA gelding, Ima Petite Classic, fondly known as “Kramer.” Not only was the spunky, black gelding a Western Riding phenom, he was a force to be reckoned with in the Trail pen accumulating numerous AQHA World and Congress Championships.
The Equine Chronicle had the opportunity to interview trainer, Charlie Cole, and owner, Darcy Reeve, numerous times over the years following Kramer’s many wins. Here are a few of our favorite Kramer quotes.
2015- “I knew last night that he was ready. I came into the practice, literally practiced for five minutes, and I knew he was good. I told Jason Martin, ‘My horse is perfect.’ I knew everything was there and it just needed to come together in the class.”- Charlie Cole
2015- “I’m so grateful to get to ride this horse,” Charlie says. “It’s been a little bit of a bumpy road, because he’s quirky. He’s Kramer! But, at 16 now, I have a good rapport with this horse. He’s pretty amazing.” – Charlie Cole
2013- “He literally acts like a 6-year-old,” Charlie says. “He doesn’t feel like a 14-year-old at all. I call him a low maintenance horse. He doesn’t take a lot of training. He doesn’t exert a lot of excess energy. He’s really sound. He’s like a rock. The hardest thing about him is that I probably have him a little fat. It seems like each year he gets a little fatter, so do I, so him and I are going to have to work on that!” – Charlie Cole
2013- “They are both so different in my mind,” Darcy says. “Everyone asks me who my favorite is, A Certain Vino or Ima Petite Classic, and I can’t choose. They’re both perfect.”
2013- “Kramer is the kind of horse that if I want to get on and ride bareback around the fairgrounds I could. You can just do whatever you want on him. With Vino, you kind of have to be careful, because he likes to get happy. Kramer is the older horse, but he acts like the younger one. He definitely has the most energy.”- Darcy Reeve
