The sudden death of beloved Veterinarian Kathleen Lennon on March 13, 2023, shocked and saddened the horse community.
To honor her memory and to benefit future veterinarians, in addition to raising awareness about causes like Not One More Vet, a scholarship was established in her name at the Purdue College of Veterinary Medicine.
As they always do, the horse community came together to show their support.
In April, An Equine Production and the Indiana Quarter Horse Youth Association produced a benefit in the form of a Trainer Challenge at the April IQHYA Show at the C Bar C in Cloverdale, Indiana, raising $20,000. Now in conjunction with The Madness, the Southern Ohio Quarter Horse Association is holding a live auction and an online auction to benefit the Purdue scholarship and for the establishment of a scholarship through the Ohio Quarter Horse Foundation.
“The horse show community is really like a big family where everyone helps each other and looks out for each other. And Kathleen was a big part of that. She was the first person to offer to help, answer the call late at night, or arrive at your barn at all hours to help take care of these horses,” explains Judd Paul. “These scholarships are a way to honor one of the horse show community’s own and to recognize future veterinarians or horse show competitors who exemplify Kathleen’s passion for our community.”
The online auction features over 100 items, including a month’s training from outstanding trainers all over the country, with many other items including baskets, services and a trip.
Their goal is to reach $50,000, and as of post time, the auction had reached over $27,000.
The end of the online auction: Saturday, May 13 at 12 Noon EST.
Thank you to all the sponsors:
“Kathleen was not only a talented, experienced, and passionate vet, she was a competitive rider, a friend, a confidante, and a beautiful individual, inside and out,” Judd Paul says. “She deserves to be recognized and honored. She will always be remembered…”
