Rood & Riddle Veterinarians to Participate in 2018 Lunch and Learn Series

Wellington, Fla. – Dec. 7, 2017 – Rood & Riddle in Wellington is excited to announce its participation in the 2018 Lunch and Learn Series hosted weekly at the Winter Equestrian Festival. The Lunch and Learn Series is held once a week over the 12-week span of the festival and features experts on a variety of topics including management, horsemanship, and veterinary medicine. Admission is free to riders, trainers, and horse owners or tickets are available for purchase for $25. Held at the Palm Beach International Equestrian Center, new topics are presented each week with the intent to better inform horseman in the sport on a wide variety of important topics.

Four of the top veterinarians from the esteemed Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital will be hosting individual seminars on issues that are an important aspect for the horse community. Dr. Jose Bras, DVM, MS, DACVS, of Rood & Riddle Wellington will speak on the topic “Colic; Diagnosis and Surgical Decision.” Dr. Bras completed an in-hospital internship at Rood & Riddle in Lexington, KY, and then a surgical residency at Kansas State University (KSU). In addition, he earned a Master’s degree of Science in Biomedical Science while at KSU. He became a full-time Rood & Riddle team member in 2015 and now heads up the surgery department at Rood & Riddle in Wellington.

Dr. Stephanie Walbornn, DVM, DACT also calls Wellington home and will be presenting on “Advanced Technology in Assisted Reproductive Techniques in Breeding Horses.” As a diplomate of the American College of Theriogenologists, Dr. Walbornn has made the Rood & Riddle name a top provider of a variety of advanced reproductive techniques including embryo flushing, oocyte aspiration, semen collection and evaluation, and more.

International Equine Veterinarian Hall of Fame member Dr. Raul Bras, DVM, CJF, APF will be sharing his combined knowledge of both veterinary medicine and equine podiatry to discuss the topic of “Therapeutic Shoeing for Performance Horses.” Dr. Bras, a shareholder at Rood & Riddle, serves as a veterinary podiatrist based out of the Lexington campus. He routinely schedules appointments in Wellington and across the United States. In 2010 he also became a Certified Journeyman Farrier of the American Farriers Association after completing the farrier program at Cornell University.

Lastly, Dr. John Hubbell, DVM, MS, ACVAA will be traveling from Lexington, Kentucky to discuss the little-known topic of anesthesia in a presentation he calls “Demystifying Anesthesia.” Dr. Hubbell directs the anesthesia service at Rood & Riddle Equine Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky and is responsible for training all Rood & Riddle team members that perform anesthesia at any of the three practices; Lexington, KY, Saratoga Springs, NY and Wellington, FL. Dr. Hubbell has consulted at Rood & Riddle since the facility was established in 1986 and joined the staff on a full time basis in July of 2015. He is a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Anesthesia and Analgesia and has spent his entire veterinary career focused on anesthesia with a particular interest in the horse. Dr. Hubbell became a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Anesthesia and Analgesia in 1982, was a faculty member at the College of Veterinary at Ohio State for 33 years and currently holds the rank of Professor Emeritus. Dr. Hubbell has co-edited and co-written two widely read books on anesthesia, Handbook of Veterinary Anesthesia, currently in its 5th edition, and Equine Anesthesia, Monitoring and Emergency Therapy, currently in its 2nd edition. An author of over 75 scientific publications, Dr. Hubbell is a frequent speaker on the topic of equine anesthesia, including presentations at the annual meetings of the American Association of Equine Practitioners and the Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Society.
