Every year, as foaling season approaches, breeders wait with extreme anticipation for their foals to arrive. Most successful crosses begin with careful planning, research, and hours of hard work and collaboration. Much like playing the tables at Vegas, a certain element of luck is also involved and each breeder is taking a gamble on the science of genetics. We talked to some of the top breeders in the industry to find out the new crosses they’re most excited about for 2017. Although this is the first time you’re hearing about them, we’re certain it won’t be the last.
BSB R11 QUARTER HORSES
The girls at BSB R11 Quarter Horses LLC are no strangers to the spotlight when it comes to breeding winners. In fact, their motto is “the proof is in the kids,” and after many years of breeding success and countless combinations, they’re very excited to be breeding foundation bloodlines with a modern spin. Their new stallion, Hez Only Trouble (Invitation Only x Rhapsody in the Rain) is particularly special to them because Rhapsody in the Rain, also known as “Rainy,” is one of their all-time favorite mares. She has 22 babies and produced the AQHA World Champion Western Pleasure mare, Sleepin in the Rain, when crossed with their other stallion, Too Sleepy to Zip.
All of their top mares they bred to Hez Only Trouble are new crosses. One of the most anticipated 2017 babies is Hez Only Trouble x Zips Fancy Fashion. Zips Fancy Fashion is a proven producer and the dam of Congress and NSBA World Champion, Ain’t Gota Lot. This is the first time for this cross, and they’re particularly excited about this foal because this will be the first time Dynamic Fashion (Zips Fancy Fashion’s dam) and Rhapsody in the Rain’s blood will be mixed. Another cross they’re eagerly anticipating is Hez Only Trouble x Lope
in My Boots. Lope in My Boots is by their late stallion, Don’t Skip Charlie, and out of a full sister to AQHA World Champion and multiple APHA World Champion, Shine My Zipper. Another cross they’re eagerly awaiting is Hez Only Trouble x Zips Smooth Sally, who is a producer of multiple Congress Champions and NSBA World Champions. Zips Smooth Sally is the dam of AQHA Reserve World Champion in Junior Hunter Hack, Just Like June.
