Following on the heels of a very successful Mid Summer Fling show, that took place June 13-16, in DuQuoin, Illinois, the IKI Summer Spectacular continued the fun with five complete shows at the same location, June 17-21. AQHA competitors who chose to stay for both events racked up nine judges!

Judges for the IKI Summer Spectacular were Shawn Hays, Daren Wright, Mike Hoeppner, Andrea Simons, and Mike Weaver.

Unfortunately, Tropical Storm Bill did make appearance dumping quite a bit of rain on the show grounds. However, it didn’t put too much of a damper on class sizes as evident by the 20 entries in Senior Western Pleasure, 23 in L1 Trail, and 26 in Senior Trail. Check out the largest classes of the show below.

  • Performance Halter Mares- 10
  • Amateur Performance Halter Geldings- 12
  • L1 Western Pleasure- 12
  • Open Hunter Under Saddle- 15
  • Junior Trail- 15
  • Youth Horsemanship 14-18- 16
  • Youth Trail- 16
  • Performance Halter Geldings- 17
  • Senior Western Pleasure- 20
  • L1 Trail- 23
  • Senior Trail- 26

For the largest Western Pleasure class of the show, Senior Western Pleasure, each of the 20 competitors was required to lope into the gate. Every exhibitor in the class received a t-shirt for participating, and the competition was stiff. The class on June 18th saw a split decision with Terry Cross and Ona Hot Summer Night receiving a first, first, and third; Bruce Vickery and Cutelicious earning a first, second, and second; and Nick Mayabb with Beyond The Best receiving a second, third, and third. Terry Cross and One Hot Summer Night claimed the circuit champion title for the show.
