Regional Club Spotlight- Spotted in Illinois!

ApHC News

Long Creek ApHC, a regional club based in east central Illinois, recently hosted their annual show, Get Spotted, at Gordyville USA in Gifford, Illinois. With over 1,200 entries, 300+ stall reservations and nearly 200 classes offered, the show was a huge success! Due to COVID, last year’s show had to be moved from its usual end of April dates to Labor Day weekend. While 2020’s event was still impressive in number, the show held April 23 – 25, 2021 saw it double in size!

Michigan, Texas, North Dakota, Florida… Appaloosas made their way to the event from near and far! Class numbers were high and the quality of horses noticeable. The Get Spotted Blanket Fee entry was a great deal for exhibitors, allowing one horse or one rider to show in unlimited classes for a flat $100 fee (*not including ApHC fees & stalls). Nearly every discipline and class type were represented with ranch, showmanship and youth walk-trot classes being especially popular. The show kicked off with cattle events on Friday afternoon, followed by two full days of classes, and wrapping up Sunday at 10pm after western horsemanship. While the days were long, there was no shortage of good spirits and fun to be had!

Additional activities over the weekend included a pizza party on Saturday night, as well as Egg Toss and Boot Scramble fundraisers lead by Appaloosa Youth Association President, Maisen Gores. Prizes, giveaways, and awards were numerous, thanks to the many sponsors who donated. Long Creek ApHC president, Janet Snyder, would like to thank all those who supported the club and show, making it such a great one!

Long Creek ApHC was originally formed near the east side of Decatur, Illinois in the tiny town of Long Creek, where many Appaloosa shows were held at Big Creek Arena, a facility that now no longer exists. The club went dormant in 1997, but just two years later, President Janet Snyder, decided to get the club going again! The club has been active ever since, hosting their Get Spotted Appaloosa Show each year. At their annual year-end award banquet, Long Creek ApHC enjoys giving back to its members with awesome awards earned from points at cross-approved regional shows.
