As it turns out, first time’s a charm for Randy Jacobs who led Cowboy to win the Weanling Stallions Congress Champion title this morning at the 2014 All American Quarter Horse Congress. Jacobs was at the lead for owner Robert Eurez and trainer Donald Griffey.
“I’ve know Bob Eurez for a long time, probably 25 years,” Jacobs says. “Donald Griffey asked me, a couple of weeks ago, if I would show him, and I was glad to do it. He’s a really nice colt. He’s done well.”
“Don has been fitting him, and I really appreciate him asking me to do it. Don is a great guy. He’s always done good with babies; he gets those babies ready.”
Given Cowboy’s bloodlines and the promising start to his career, Jacobs believes this young horse has quite the future in the show pen and possibly the breeding barn.
“He’s out of a daughter of Mr. Conclusion, and I’ve always been a big fan of Mr. Conclusion,” he says. “They always make really good broodmares. I think the colt’s got a bright future. He’s by Kid Coolsified, Dr. Jensen’s horse. He’s done a tremendous job.”
“The colt is really balanced; he’s pretty; and he looks like a stud horse. He’s got a lot of muscle to him, and he’s a correct colt. He showed really good. When he went in, I thought he was a little antsy, and I thought this might be a long morning… but he settled right in and showed good. I figured he would; Don’s babies are always broke.”
Eurez will be showing the colt next week in the amateur division and, following the Congress, Cowboy will be headed to the AQHA World Show with Ted Turner at the lead.
The Reserve Champion in the class was Andy Staton with Never Tell a Secret. The winner of both the limited division and Equine Chronicle-sponsored Futurity was Phillip Wilkinson with JCG High Noon.
