Perfect Products press release
A new outbreak of EHV-1 has been reported in Minnesota and western Wisconsin, with 10 confirmed cases to date.*3 horses have been euthanized and the cases seem to be spreading mainly among barrel horses.
“EHV-1 is highly contagious among horses and can cause a variety of ailments, including rhinopneumonitis (a respiratory disease usually found in young horses), abortion in broodmares, and myeloencephalopathy (EHM, the neurologic form). Myeloencephalopathy is characterized by fever, ataxia (incoordination), weakness or paralysis of limbs, and incontinence.” (TheHorse.com)
You can protect your horses. First, make sure vaccinations are up-to-date as vaccinating your horse is the best way to protect against common diseases. Vaccinating against EHV-1 specifically may help decrease the clinical signs of the virus.
In addition to vaccinating your horse, feeding ProtEQtor may help boost your horse’s immune system to help lock out viruses spread by horse-to-horse contact. Bioactive passive immune support, immune balancing and antioxidant components work together to boost your horse’s natural immune response. You can protect your horse from immune challenges by feeding ProtEQtor daily when the immune system is challenged or if you are concerned about the spread of a disease outbreak.
For more information on the current outbreak of EHV-1, Stillwater Equine Veterinary Clinic has been updating the public via their website and Facebook page. For more information on how ProtEQtor can protect your horses, click here.
