Believe it or not, but the 2018 Breeders’ Halter Futurity is fast approaching! The event will take place September 12-16 in Des Moines, Iowa, with Rick Baker, Don Falcon, Steve Ferguson, Jodi Finkenbinder, Chip Knost, Mitch Leonarski, Tommy Manion, and Buddy Talbert judging.
Show management has just released pre-entry numbers, which show an increase over last year.
Open Division Total- 506
Amateur Division Total- 250
Youth Division Total- 24
Grand Total- 780
There is a number of exciting additions coming to the show this year, especially the new DIY Amateur Weanling Colts and Geldings and DIY Amateur Weanling Fillies classes. Click here to read more about these classes and click here for eligibility requirements.
Following the loss of a BHF family member, Gary Gordon, earlier this year, the BHF will be be awarding the Gary Gordon Memorial Trophy to the winner of the Amateur Yearling Mares class. The traveling trophy will be awarded each year during the Futurity.
Gary and Tammy Raak of Twin Cities South Trailers, Pilot Point, will be presenting one year’s use of a trailer to the amateur exhibitor that earns the most points during the show as well as one year’s use of a trailer to the amateur exhibitor that earns the most points in Open and Color division Open and Amateur classes.
APHA and BHF have partnered for the $20,000 Bonus Payout that will reward the highest placing foals that compete at both the Futurity and the APHA Open/Amateur World Show.
And don’t forget the Futurity Futures Sale that will take place Tuesday, Sept. 11th. This unique sale held prior to the show’s start will offer World Champions, Futurity Champions, and Futurity prospects.
