POA Competitors Come Out in Full Force For First Weekend of 2014 Reichert Celebration

POA competitors came out in full force for the opening weekend of the 2014 Reichert Celebration here in Fort Worth, Texas.

Some notable wins during the POA event included 13-18 Hunter Under Saddle champion, Kelly Woodley with Rocky Skips Noches, and the adorable Skye Vandrop with Pal Lance taking home the first place spot in Western Pleasure 18 and Under W/T. A pair of sisters dominated the 9-12 age division. LaKayla Phillips rode Justa Lucky Impulse to a win in the 9-12 Hunter Under Saddle, and Kylee Phillips rode Chips Are Smooth to a second place finish in the same class. Transitioning into western events, Zachary Bunn piloted Wils Suddenly Royal to a win in Western Pleasure 13-18.

The big winner in the Adult 19 and Over age division was Kendi Kamps with Wish You Were Invited. Not only did this pair win the Western Pleasure Open Adult 19 and Over class, they also won the Reichert Celebration 3/4/5-Year-Old and Over Western Pleasure 19 and Over class. Then, Dylan DeBuhr took a turn in the saddle to win both the Junior Trail and Junior Western Pleasure.

The main event of the POA show was the Any Age Rider/Pony 5 and Under McClaren Western Pleasure Futurity with 13 competitors. The winner of the class was Kendi Kamps with Wish You Were Invited, who took home a nice $1,500 check for her efforts. The Reserve Champion was James Saubolle aboard Wils Suddenly Royal for Susan Bunn. Third place was Kristen Fears with SLS Dreams Come True for Shannon Sucre.

The POA show was just the first breed event that will take place during the three-week long Celebration. Up next is the AQHA show that kicks off today and continues through Thursday. The APHA portion of the Celebration provides two double judged shows August 21-23 and a special event on August 24th. Judges for the show will be Betsy Tuckey, Scott Neuman, Bonnie Jo Clay, Marvin Kapushion, Mark DeFreece, and Jodi Finkenbinder.

The $10,000 added Dash For Cash 5-D Barrel Race is scheduled for August 22-24th. The $10,000 added Cowboy Mounted Shooting event will take place August 22-24th with a featured special event on Saturday, August 23rd. The CMSA All Cowgirl VIP Showdown is estimated to begin at 7:00 pm and will benefit the Cowgirl Museum and Hall of Fame. Word around the street is that a few pleasure riders (perhaps even an Equine Chronicle staff member) have been invited to participate in a special exhibition portion of the mounted shooting event on Saturday evening…

The Arabian Horse Association show will take place August 29-September 1st. The Appaloosa show will host four judges, David Johnson, Kevin Hood, Rodney Safty, and Jodi Finkenbinder August 30-September 1st. The Reichert Sale Stakes, Pleasure Series Sale Stakes, NSBA classes, slot classes, and All Breed World Championships will take place August 25-31st.
