The SOQHYA Challenge recently took place February 25-27 in Springfield, Ohio. Judges for the show were Brad Jewett, Jeff Greaves, and Chris Thompson. There was a fun Exhibitors Party on Friday, and bagels and doughnuts were served throughout the weekend.

Following in the theme of celebrating youth exhibitors, there were plenty of fun events on the schedule, like the Youth Boot Race on Friday, Youth Ride A Buck on Saturday, and Youth Sack Race on Sunday. In addition, every new exhibitor was given a gift. The highlight of the show was the Youth Scholarship Challenge, which was open to all youth exhibitors for no cost. The format allowed for one horse and one rider combination to declare three performance classes and one halter class to count for points.

A $1,500 scholarship was presented to the winner of the 14-18 High Point and 13 and Under High Point. The winner of the L1/Novice Youth High Point, Small Fry High Point, L1 Youth Walk/Jog High Point, and Second Chance category each received $1,000 scholarship. Reserve High Point for both the 14-18 and 13 and Under received $1,000. Reserve in the L1/Novice, Small Fry, L1 Youth Walk/Jog, and Second Chance all received $500.
The L1 Youth Walk Trot was a new division this year bringing the total money awarded to a whopping $11,000! Since the Scholarship Challenge started in 2013, over $80,000 has been awarded to youth exhibitors, thanks to generous sponsors.
