Oregon and Gordyville Shows Postponed Due to EHV-1

From the show management of the Illinois Quarter Horse Association Youth Shows:

May 15-17 at Gordyville USA

Show management was alerted that two cases of equine herpes virus type-1 were diagnosed after the Midwest Reining Horse Association, May 2-3 show at Gordyville USA; both horses were from the same stable. One horse was successfully treated and one horse was humanely euthanized.

We are canceling the Illinois Quarter Horse Association Youth Shows, originally slated for May 15-17. Exhibitors will be notified this week of the future status of shows scheduled. We are conferring with the state of Illinois, University of Illinois, AQHA, National Barrel Horse Association, National Reining Horse Association and the Illinois Paint Horse Association about the measures we will take in stopping the spread of this illness in horses.

The association that rented our facility has contacted the exhibitors that were present at that show. Our facility will be disinfected with appropriate actions. We encourage everyone to not travel with horses until the recommended time has passed and deemed safe and horses asymptomatic. Everyone needs to confer with their veterinarian on preventing/treating EHV-1. The welfare of our horses and exhibitors is our main concern and we will remain transparent.

From the Oregon Quarter Horse Association:

May 14-17 at Central Point

After reviewing the latest information with the Oregon State Veterinarian and AQHA, the OQHA show management and board of directors have made a very tough and necessary decision to postpone the May 14-17 show due to the EHV-1 outbreaks in Oregon. OQHA feels that everyone needs to be proactive in protecting the horses and the safety of the shows.

Stay tuned for additional information on a new date. We are looking forward to seeing everyone June 22-28 at the Oregon Summer Classic.

If you have any questions, please contact the OQHA office at 503-537-9845.
