It’s no secret that Angela Wade has a soft spot in her heart for mares. From the late, great, One Hot Drama Mama, to her current partners, My Mama Said So and A Soxy Dream, Angela is building up quite the maternal bloodline with her merry band of sorrel mares.
One of these talented mares is Angela’s current all-around partner, A Soxy Dream, aka “Sister,” who just came off a spectacular season. Angela and Sister started off the 2021 show season strong, being named Reserve Champion in the Amateur Trail and 3rd in the Cinch Horsemanship Challenge at the NSBA World Show. The pair then went on to win the Amateur Trail at The Championship Show and the AQHA World Show. They also walked away with Top 5 placings in the Amateur Horsemanship and Western Riding at the World Show, as well as the coveted Reserve Amateur All-Around title.
“I started showing Sister during her 4-year-old year and had success early on winning the Amateur Trail at the NSBA World Show,” Angela says. “Two years after that, we won our first globe–third place in the Amateur Trail at the AQHA World Show. This last year, all the pieces came together at the right time, and we won our first gold globe together.”
Unbeknownst to most people watching the Amateur Trail finals at the AQHA World Show last year, Angela was dealing with the unexpected loss of her longtime partner, One Hot Drama Mama, better known as “Peaches.” Just one month prior, Angela piloted Peaches to win the Amateur Trail at the Congress. Given the sudden passing of Peaches the day before the finals, there was a moment that Angela considered not showing Sister and her other mare who had qualified–My Mama Said So, aka “Sally.” Ultimately, Angela did compete with both mares, executing a beautiful pattern to secure the win and set an arena record score of 247 with Sister.
