Following a recent Facebook post shared by the Oklahoma State Fair, the Oklahoma Paint Horse Club has made the decision to cancel this weekend’s upcoming horse show.
Oklahoma State Fair– “We have been informed that two horses from Texas that attended the recent Better Barrel Races World Finals at State Fair Park, April 26-29, have now tested positive for the EHV-1 virus. During the event, the horses were stalled in Barn 4. The original of where the horses contracted the virus is unknown. State Fair Park officials take this information very seriously. In coordination with State of Oklahoma Veterinary officials, we have enhanced our standard bio-security procedures that take place between all equine events at State Fair Park. In an abundance of caution, we are disinfecting all stalls, equipment, and common areas throughout the entire facility. State Fair Park officials will remain in contact with Dr. Michael Herrin, the Assistant State of Oklahoma Veterinarian. We have made him aware of the precautions we are taking at the venue and he commends our efforts. Should you require additional information please contact either Scott Munz at 405-948-6737 or smunz@okstatefair.com or Bill Allen at 405-948-6740 or ballen@okstatefair.com.”
Oklahoma Paint Horse Club– “OPHC has decided to cancel this weekend’s show due to yesterday’s announcement from the OK State Fairgrounds. We heard from enough of you that this was a concern and have had a lot of stall cancellations. We will try to find another time in the near future to replace this show we’re cancelling. Thank you for your understanding and please let me know if you have any questions.”
