Non Pro Finalists Set at 2013 NRHA Derby

phpThumb_generated_thumbnailjpg-1June 25, 2013 – NRHA press release Christa Morris – The second section of the National Reining Horse Association (NRHA) Non Pro Derby took over the Oklahoma State Fair Coliseum Arena on Tuesday, June 25. The second section included more than 100 non pro entries vying for their share of $185,000 in added money.

McCutcheon (Aubrey, Texas) and Always Gotyer Gunsup (Gunner x Always A Dunit) now share the #1 position in the go-round with Lauren Hall (Madisonville, Texas) and Chics Cattin Pepto (Smart Chic Olena x Pepto Cat) with matching scores of 221.5.

McQuay Stables, Inc., of Tioga, Texas, owns Always Gotyer Gunsup, a 2007 mare with $152,400 NRHA LTE.

Hall’s run put her atop the leader board in the level 3 and level 2 non pro divisions. She and the 2008 stallion were level 4 and level 3 non pro division finalists at the 2012 NRHA Derby. Hall has won in excess of $46,000 in NRHA competition while Chics Cattin Pepto has earned $31,540.

Jack Medows (Cuba, Mo.) and Surprizentheprincess (Jerry Lees Surprise x Princess In Diamonds) earned a 220.5 to tie Meloney Morris (Memphis, Tenn.) and Peacemaker Whiz (Topsail Whiz x Meerly Chic Olena) for the win in the youth non pro derby. They also tied for the top score in the level 1 non pro division go-round.

Peacemaker Whiz, owned by Morris, is a 2007 gelding with $19,790 in NRHA Lifetime Earnings.

This is Jack Medows’ third year to be a youth member of NRHA. His mount, Surprizentheprincess ($55,500 NRHA LTE) is owned by Amy Medows (Cuba, Mo.). The 2009 mare finished third in the level 4 non pro division with Kelle Smith at the 2012 NRHA Futurity.

Unofficially, the bubbles to qualify for Friday’s finals are: level 4 = 215, level 3 = 214.5, level 2 = 214.5, level 1 = 212.5 and prime time = 215.

The youth meeting will be held in the Youth Room (Room 3) at 3 p.m. Every youth member is encouraged to attend, invite your friends!

The NRHyA Anderson Bean Speaking Contest will be immediately following the NRHyA meeting in Conference Room B. Come watch NRHyA’s best and brightest compete and test their public-speaking skills! $3,000 in scholarships will be awarded!
