Image Matters to Your Brand

Will Rogers was once quoted as saying, “You never get a second chance to make a first impression.” I suspect the essence of the message has been offered by wise men for centuries before him.

Your mind makes some like or dislike decisions with incredible speed: the taste of food, the melody of music, the temperature of bath water, and first impressions of people. This decision process, like breathing, is involuntary.

Sometimes you’re wrong with your first impressions, but not often. You know what you like. As the first impression “like or dislike” decision process about people can be a complex combination of objective and emotional thoughts, it makes sense to take advantage of the easiest factor, appearance.

Professional horsemen and horsewomen who dress for success with the apparel of their profession, e.g. breeches, pressed and collared shirts, boots, clean jeans, and a hat are at an advantage because they look the part of the pro.

A professional look helps in these simple ways:

  • Your look becomes part of your professional brand as you work with prospects and your customers.
  • Your team adopts a more professional attitude toward their work and their own appearances.
  • Your own attitude toward your work for the day and the future of your business is supported by your “well turned out” appearance.

Image matters.

Extra Thoughts:

Expecting the search engines to guide visitors to your website is like handing a horse a dressage test and saying, “Ok, let’s go.”
