Horsemen who haul long distances with show horses want the best conditions for those animals during transport. The past few years have seen some good innovations in horse trailers in terms of safety features and comfort.
Bob Kennedy is the Sales Manager at Coast to Coast Truck and Trailer, a company that has been in Ocala, Florida a long time. He tells us it was originally owned by the late Susan Scott and is now owned by her daughter, Nancy Wilkerson Ditty. “I’ve helped Nancy manage it since 2002,” Bob says.
When Nancy graduated from college, she started helping at the trailer store. “Coast to Coast has been in business since 1984 and we were the second dealer of Four-Star trailers in the country,” Nancy says. “It was great for me to be able to work in the trailer store and keep my passion close to me; I was able to make a living while doing things with my horses, so it was a win-win for me,” she says. Having horses herself also helped her know what might be beneficial to have in trailers.
The company specializes in high-end trailers in what is a very competitive market in Ocala, so safety features are a huge factor. “Ocala is the horse capital of the world,” Bob says. “This region has warmbloods, Thoroughbreds, hunter-jumpers, dressage horses, eventers, barrel racers, western pleasure enthusiasts, and all-around horses.”
