NCEA Riders of the Month For January

WACO, Texas (Feb. 8, 2017) — The National Collegiate Equestrian Association announced its January Riders of the Month on Wednesday.
Top-ranked Baylor nearly swept all four awards, winning everything except the Shorty’s Reining Rider of the Month claimed by Georgia’s Kyndall Harper. The EquiFit Equitation Over Fences Rider of the Month belonged to Alicia Gasser, while EquiFit Equitation on the Flat Rider of the Month went to Savannah Jenkins. Abbi Demel received the Shorty’s Horsemanship Rider of the Month award.

EquiFit Equitation Over Fences Rider of the Month: Alicia Gasser, Baylor
- 2-0 in the month, including an MOP nod at TCU
- The only Baylor rider to earn her point in both of the team’s competitions in January
Abbi Demel
EquiFit Equitation on the Flat Rider of the Month: Savannah Jenkins, Baylor
- Took home both MOP honors in flat for the month, including scoring a 92 in a road win over TCU
- Helped the hunt seat team to an 11-7 overall finish in January, with Jenkins finishing at 3-0-1in flat and fences
- Improved her winning streak in flat to six, including five straight scores of 80+ and the team’s first 90+ score this season
Shorty’s Horsemanship Rider of the Month: Abbi Demel, Baylor
- Finished a perfect 2-0 in the short month of competition, helping Baylor go 2-0 and capture No. 1 ranking
- One of two horsemanship riders for Baylor to go 2-0, picking up MOP honors vs. then-No. 5 Georgia
Shorty’s Reining Rider of the Month: Kyndall Harper, Georgia
- Rode to a 1-0 record in reining in January to bring her season record to 4-2-2
- Defeated opponent by 3 points
- Earned MOP honors with an event-high 73, bringing her career total to six
