WACO, Texas – The National Collegiate Equestrian Association on Wednesday announced its February Riders of the Month, recognizing outstanding performances from the fifth month of the 2013-14 collegiate equestrian season.
Baylor’s Savannah Jenkins was named the February Equitation on the Flat Rider of the Month. She went 4-0 during the month of February with wins over TCU, Fresno State, SMU, and Kansas State. After picking up an exhibition win over Delaware State, Jenkins earned an 82-74 win over TCU along with an 82-72 win over Fresno State. In her head-to-head against SMU, Jenkins defeated her opponent, 64-59, and closed out the month with a 72-70 decision over Kansas State. This is Jenkins’ first semester at Baylor, and she boasts a perfect 5-0 record so far on the flat.
South Carolina’s Alexa Anthony was named the February Equitation Over Fences Rider of the Month. Anthony went 3-0 in the jumping during February, winning three Most Outstanding Player honors for the Gamecocks. She posted an event-high score at No. 4 New Mexico State on Feb. 1, defeating her opponent, 87-73. One week later at Georgia, she posted an event-high score again, defeating her opponent, 87-86. She closed out the month of February with another event-high score against Texas A&M, defeating her opponent, 88-78.
Baylor’s Bryn Lindley was named the February Horsemanship Rider of the Month. Lindley went 5-0 during February with one Most Outstanding Player honor. During the month of February, Lindley posted victories over Delaware State, TCU, Fresno State, SMU, and Kansas State. Against TCU, Lindley picked up a 74.5-73 win, followed by a 72-63.5 victory over her Fresno State opponent. Against in-state rival SMU, Lindley earned a 72.5-57.5 win, and she closed out the month with a 72.5-68 win against Kansas State.
Oklahoma State’s Jenna Blumer was named the February Reining Rider of the Month. Blumer posted a 3-0 record in reining during February while earning one Most Outstanding Player award. The Cowgirl senior posted wins over Auburn, Delaware State, and Kansas State. In Oklahoma State’s neutral site meet against the Tigers, Blumer defeated her opponent, 71.5-68, earning her the Most Outstanding Player award for the second time this year. Two weeks later on Feb. 15, Blumer earned a 69.5-68.5 win over Kansas State, and closed out the month with a 71.5-70.5 win over TCU. Blumer is currently on a six-meet winning streak and has an overall record this season of 7-2.
The 2013-2014 regular season winds down this weekend, and conference and independent tournaments will take place March 28-29. The 2014 NCEA National Championships will take place April 17-19 in Waco, Texas.
