Boys Move Over because Nancy Sue Ryan is coming through! The talented equestrienne from Texas was in the irons of the 3-year-old black mare she and her daughter, Courtney Brockmueller, fondly refer to as “Betty” this afternoon at the 2014 AQHA World Championship Show.
Their win in a talented group of junior hunter under saddle horses turned out to be the perfect wedding present for Ryan who recently wed husband Larry Hansch just a few months ago. We caught up with the new bride, and grandmother, as she and her grandson “Brim” kept a watchful eye on Betty in the drug testing booth.
“We bought Betty in March from Highpoint Performance Horses,” Ryan says. “She is by Skys Blue Boy and out of an Artful Move mare. She won at the NSBA World Show, but then she got hurt at the Congress, so we didn’t show her. She got run into, and she hurt her hip, so we sent her home [to regroup] for here.”
Now that Betty is back in tip top shape, she was able to claim two World Show trophies over the course of the past two weeks. During amateur week, Brockmueller rode Betty to a Reserve World Champion finish in Amateur Hunter Under Saddle. Looking forward to next year, Ryan and Brockmueller have hopes to expand Betty’s list of events to include another Hunter discipline.
“We’d like to start [Over Fence classes] with her a little bit and maybe run her as Super Horse as a five-year old,” Ryan says. “She’s got a lovely trot and tons of expression in the show pen. I think she is what AQHA is looking for with head carriage, and she has a really pretty canter. Then, we’ll pull embryos.”
