The Michigan Paint Horse Club’s Fall Color Classic was a big hit October 25-27 in East Lansing, MI. The new show management team, An Equine Production, reports that there were 180 goes in Halter and the show concluded with over 5,000 APHA entries. In addition, more than $12,000 in futurity money was paid out, which was double the size of the futurity last year.

Some of those futurity winners include Sue Ellen Kaven, who rode Consider Me Fancy to win the 2 & 3-Year-Old Hunter Under Saddle. In the 4 and Over Hunter Under Saddle, the winner was Sarah Johnson-Koning with All I Want To Do. Heather Brower rode Cowboy By Design to win the 4 and Over Trail. Drew Kooiker led Hes The Secret to win Yearling Geldings. Christine Eller led Heza Secret Imprint to win Weanling Stallions and Geldings.

Judges for October 25th and 26th were Mark Kuhlwein, Amy Watkins, April Devitt, and Rhonda Replogle. For the October 26th and 27th show, judges were Jeff Buck, Daren Wright, GiGi Bailey, and Casey Orr.

Judge Orr had this to say about the attendance at this year’s event. “The Solid Paint Bred classes were huge. I have not seen that many entries anywhere in solid classes. Strong competition and quality entries made this weekend’s horse show a blast to judge.”

In addition, given the recent fire that destroyed trainer, Blake Carney’s, facility and resulted in the deaths of 19 horses, the Michigan Paint Horse Club banded together and helped to raise over $5,000. There was also a very fun Halloween costume class with some incredible entries.
