Three classes are already complete this morning at the 2014 All American Quarter Horse Congress. First up in the Amateur Select Hunter under Saddle, Laurel Champlin claimed another Congress Champion title in Amateur Select Hunter Under Saddle with her horse Look N Hott, aka “JJ.” Last week, trainer Beth Case rode JJ to a win in Senior Hunter Under Saddle and Champlin won the Maturity Non Pro Hunter Under Saddle Stakes.

The Reserve Champion in this morning’s Select Hunter Under Saddle class was Penny Jargella with As The World Terms. Third place was Jodie Nolen with Sportin A Neon Tan.

In the Three-Year-Old Open Hunter Under Saddle Futurity, Beth Case rode Only Blue Couture, a beautiful gray mare by Hot Ones Only, to a Congress Championship title. The Reserve Champion was Ryan Painter with Only Smokin Hot. Third place was Alyse Roberts with Next Ones On Me.

We caught up with the owner of “Azy,” Holly Johnson, a trainer from Australia. “I train horses back home in Australia, and this is my first horse in the states,” Johnson says. “She’s been with Highpoint for the last two years; I worked with them last year at the Congress and NSBA World Show. Sharnai [Thompson] leased her for this show season.”

Just the other day, Thompson rode Azy to a win in the 3-Year-Old Non Pro Hunter Under Saddle Stakes. As a two-year-old, Azy was named a NSBA World Champion in Two-Year-Old Open Hunter Under Saddle and Reserve in the BCF division of the class.

“She’s beautiful-legged,” Johnson says. “I bought her for breeding actually, and I’m just lucky that she’s turned out. Her front legs are so pretty at the trot, and she he has a long stride. At the canter, she she has lift, and she’s great hocked. She hangs her neck so pretty.”
