On Friday, October 4, the action at the Great Southwest Equestrian Center continued with nearly 200 horses going through the gates to show in the Tellepsen and Coliseum Arena.

The Novice Horse Non Pro was the first class of the day at the Heritage Futurity Show on Friday and top honors in the Level 1 went to Kary Key on Lean N Hollywood for a score of 71.5 . Carolyn Edson became the Reserve Champion of that division for her score of 70 on Vintage Nic Nac.

In the Level 2, Carl Lambert rode Wound Up Wimp to a 71 marking to win the Championship, with Lyle Lovett finishing just a half point behind on Two Gun Shiner to claim the Reserve.

In the Tellepsen Arena the action began with the Open, Intermediate Open, limited Open and Rookie Professional classes run concurrently. Patty Brownshadel rode her Starzz in Hollywood to a 72.5 score to take the championship in both the Open and the Intermediate Open, and the reserve Open title went to Yonathan Baruch for a score of 70.5 on Leitachic, owned by Brad Bartlett.

In the Intermediate Open, the reserve went to Christelle Graffeuil for a score of 71 on Dun Berry Legend, a Custom Legend son out of Dunberry Sweet owned by Steven Simon. Christelle also won the Limited Open class. Although it was only the second time the 5-year-old stallion had been shown, she was pleased with his performance. Graffeuil, from France, showed reining horses and all around horses in Europe before moving to the United States about a year and a half ago.

Reserve in the Limited Open went to Kim Obenhaus, scoring 70 on Duane Latimer’s Treasure Chest Whiz.

In the Rookie class, Jourdan MacNeil marked 70.5 on Heza Smart Twist, owned by Stephen Boon. That earned her the championship – even though it was her first time to compete on him. “He was really good, overall, in the pen – nice and quiet,” she said.

Jourdan, who works for Yonathan Baruch, was especially grateful to her boss and to Stephen Boon for the “opportunity to show this good horse.”

The Reserve Rookie Professional title went to Josefine Spangfors on Shiney Lil Suzigun, owned by Euro-Vets, Inc.

The second class of the day in the Coliseum Arena was the Intermediate Horse Open class. Jarvis Anderson topped the Open field on Miss Electric Shock, owned by the Other King Ranch.

Eileen Depew topped the Non Pro division on Thats Great Dunit. Eileen thanked her trainers B.J. and Claudibon Roberio and her friends she shows with “because they make horse showing so enjoyable!”

The day’s second class in the Tellepsen Arena was the Rookie Level 1 and 2, run with the Prime Time Rookie. Leslie Trayers won the Rookie Level 1 on Smart Like Papoose, with a score of 66, with Laura Bringle claiming Reserve with a score of 64 on Nailumwright.

Shawn Stratman rode Dun It At Starbucks to a score of 68.5 to win the Rookie Level 2, with Sergio Elizondo only half a point behind claiming the Reserve title on Show Your Guns. Stratman also won the Prime Time Rookie on Dun It At Starbucks and punctuated that by finishing second with a score of 67.5 on Don Julio Whiz.

In the Non Pro Class, Michael Bulliard of St. Martinville, Louisiana, rode My Royalty Chex to a score of 71 for the win. He bought the horse he calls “Punk” as weanling and showed him to an NRHA Futurity Non Pro finals finish, also winning the Prime Time. Success followed as a 4-year-old but then Bulliard made the decision have surgery done on him to correct an issue with his stifle. After a 2-year layoff, he brought him back and is more than pleased at the result.

Bulliard credits his wife, Trudy, and friends John Hoyt and Steve Archer for their support in helping him to go and keep showing.

A fire and safety inspector when he’s not riding in reining competition, Michael also won the Prime class with his good run.

Reserve honors in the Non Pro went to Cade McCutcheon for a score of 70.5 on This Chic N Whiz, owned by his parents Tom and Mandy McCutcheon. Ron Thompson won the Prime Time Reserve title for his score of 70 on Little Catstep.

In the Intermediate Non Pro and Limited Non Pro, there was a tie for the top spot between Eileen Depew on That’s Great Dunit and Carolyn Edson on Vintage Nic Nac. Both scored 70.
