The 2017 Mid-Summer Classic brought big purses to The Ranch in Loveland, Colorado, July 14-16 for an innovative show format combining all breeds, the brainchild of Robert Dehn Equine Productions.
AQHA, APHA, ApHC, and any NSBA approved breed were invited to participate in the three-day event that included a full line-up of money classes. In the end, over $80,000 in prizes and awards was presented to the lucky champions in classes ranging from Western Pleasure and Showmanship to Working Hunter and Ranch Riding. Judges for the show were Sandy Curl, Elizabeth Baker, Bruce Army, Tim Finkenbinder, and Mark McCarthy.
Winning the Green Working Hunter Jackpot and $545.70 was Savanna Luedtke with Aslew of Blues. Coming in first place in the Open Working Hunter Jackpot was Abby Rasmussen with Canaris II, who earned $548.80. The Senior Ranch Trail Jackpot winner was Marty Simper with Investn Flashy Rebel, winning $527. The Senior Ranch Rail Jackpot was won by Julian Nemmers with Getn High in a Gaybar, winning $564.40. Bruce Wagner rode the same horse to win the Non Pro Ranch Rail Jackpot and $278.60.
Over in the Trail pen, Charlene Johnson rode Zippos Classic Dustr to win Non Pro Trail and $263.20. Kelly McDowall rode Chex Is The Choice to win Senior Trail. Brian Henry and On Doctors Orders won $527 in NSBA Level 1 Trail. Jeffery Gibbs and Endless Potential won $598.50 in the 2-Year-Old Western Pleasure. Erin Bradshaw showed Im Johnny Cash to win $366 in the Non Pro Pleasure Junior Horse.
Natalia Devencenty and Chex Is The Choice won Non Pro Horsemanship and $270.90. Rebecca Heckel and All Fancy In Red won $123.20 in the Novice Non Pro Hunter Under Saddle, which was followed up by a win with Teresa Sullivan for $554 in Senior Hunter Under Saddle. Erin Ricken was named the champion with Too Hot To Iron in Non Pro Hunter Under Saddle winning $288.
