Meet one of NSBYA’s impressive Youth of the Year Finalists, Alexis Gerdes. The Youth of the Year award recognizes a youth who has demonstrated dedication through volunteer work for a worthy cause and this year, the winner will recieve a scholarship from the Susan Scott Memorial Fund. The winner will be announced at the NSBA Honors Banquet on August 14, 2022!
Through her local 4-H club, Alexis has volunteered, organized and coordinated a number of community service projects, including food drives, during her 4-H years. She created and organized a coat drive which resulted in the collection of more than 40 coats for the Salvation Army, and also collected and delivered Easter Baskets for nursing home residents.
In addition, Alexis volunteered her time on a state and national level through the Kansas Quarter Horse Association and the American Quarter Horse Association.
Alexa has enrolled at Texas Christian University, where she will study psychology and criminal justice before pursuing a career as a forensic psychologist. She would like to ultimately work for the Federal Bureau of Investigation or the Central Intelligence Agency.
Every one of this year’s finalists for the Youth Of The Year Award and Susan Scott Memorial Scholarship are outstanding individuals. We wish them each the best of luck on all of their endeavors.
