Mike Short was named by the 2013 Officer and Executive Committee Nominating Committee as their recommendation to join the association’s top leaders in February 2014. With more than 25 years of experience in APHA as a judge, trainer, breeder and promoter, Mike will bring a valuable mix of leadership, horse sense and business savvy to the Executive Committee. His appointment will be voted on by the Board of Directors during the 2014 APHA Convention, February 21–24 in Irving, Texas.
A resident of Edmond, Oklahoma, Mike has served as a National Director since 1995 and is a current member of the Oklahoma Paint Horse Club; he has also been involved in leadership roles with the Empire State Paint Horse Club and the Gulf Coast Paint Horse Club, and he served as the Texas Paint Horse Club president for two years. A current member of the APHA Governance Task Force and the General Show & Contest Committee, Mike has also served on the Youth, Amateur and Membership committees. Outside of APHA, Mike has served as a general manager; a manager and horse trainer; a veterinary clinic manager; and a hospice and home health consultant. Currently, he is an operations and compliance director for a senior living facility.
Members of the APHA Board of Directors will accept Executive Committee nominations from the floor and vote on the 2014 Executive Committee appointments during the Board of Directors Meeting on February 24.
