The 2017 Redbud Spectacular lived up to its name yet again this year having large numbers, deep classes, and exhibitor-friendly events. The show kicked off with Western Pleasure, Horsemanship, and Hunt Seat classes showing bold numbers and stiff competition. Class numbers held high with 27 in 14-18 Showmanship, 32 in Open Ranch Riding, 38 in Amateur Horsemanship, and 69 in Senior Trail with Snap Krackle Pop and Blake Weis leading for the circuit.
There were many other great performances throughout this show, such as Beth Case taking home the circuit for both the Junior and Senior Hunter Under Saddle with Willy Has Potential and Hubbout A Dance. Jason Martin and Heza Radical Zip swept the Senior Western Riding thus far with one more day left to show.
As for the non-pro riders, Elizabeth Forney would take home the circuit in Level 3 14-18 Horsemanship. Whitney Vicars and Who Invited RL were champions in Level 3 Amateur Horsemanship. Angela Fox and The Company You Keep won the Level 3 Amateur Showmanship. A new duo this year, Jordan Davis and Lazy Illusion, won the 14-18 Western Pleasure circuit.
It was also great to see big numbers in the small fry throughout the week. Always exciting to see the next generation of competitors!
Fun events and dinners were held outside of the arena as well including the Welcome Party Wine Tasting and the Progressive Dinner Party where Bruce Walquist and his barn stole the show with their Horse Show Pizzeria, winning $500 for their set up and attire. They were followed in second place by T&L Quarter Horses taking home $300, and Dry River Ranch coming in third and winning $100. The dinner was filled with great food ranging from various appetizers to delicious desserts.
Along with the entertainment came awesome prizes this year. All-Around Champions will take home awards including custom made Gist Silversmith belt buckles, custom Mike Edwards Spurs, and custom Shorty’s hats.
With the fun atmosphere, great competition, and awesome prizes, the Oklahoma Quarter Horse Association and supporters put on an amazing show that keeps bringing people back year after year!
