Linda Sargent Cinches The Whoo’s First Congress Championship

The Whoo has made his name around top-level Western Pleasure circles as a horse who moves like a Pleasure horse truly should, and it has earned him nine Reserve Congress Championships as of last  week at the 2024 All American Quarter Horse Congress.

Last week, for example, trainer Shane Dowdy won the Reserve title in the Senior Western Pleasure with “Wyatt,” by The Lopin Machine and out of Whos Cheating Who by Huntin For Chocolate, which made his total nine.

This week, however, owner and Select Amateur Linda Sargent shattered that record when they earned their first Congress Championship in the Maturity Non Pro Western Pleasure Stakes Ltd.

Though Linda has won here with a different horse in years past, Amblin So Good, this was the first time he was in the blue neck ribbon.

Linda explains that Wyatt felt wonderful on the prominent day.  “He was very good, very responsive and he did everything I asked him to do, and he did it with a pleasant look on his face!”

Wyatt is seven years old, she says, and she has had him since he was two years old.  The list of what she loves about him grows longer each day.  “There are so many things – I don’t know where to start. He is a beautiful mover and he’s a really smart horse and he learns quickly, and he does to show.”

Since she has been waiting for this win for quite a while, Linda explains the feeling was great.  “Oh, it was wonderful!”

The key to waiting for this success, and achieving it, she adds, is the help she receives, not only from Shane, but also from Lauren Louw Dowdy. “I don’t know what I would do without Lauren.  She is amazing. She keeps everything moving smoothly, keeps us on time and she does so much work for us that more than I could ever tell you – really and truly.”

Wyatt is part of Shane’s string, however, Linda laughs, as he absolutely loves Shane.  “They’re both mischievous and talented, and they get along – it’s funny,” says Linda. “It has been a great show so far and I’m really excited –  this maturity class, I always call it the Clash of the Titans, because it’s always a big, deep class. Shane and Lauren both have done a wonderful job with him and he looks so good today because of them.”
