While it is unknown who said those words, it can be agreed by many mother and daughter duos that truer words may have never been spoken.
Show moms are in a class all their own, helping their daughters achieve their goals by supporting behind the scenes and carting around show clothes, lipstick, and groom bags. But what about those special mother-daughter partners who show together, encouraging each other in the arena, discussing maneuvers, and creating game plans side-by-side?
Better Together
For Barbara Gonzalez and her daughter, Missy Wahrmund, they say there is no better feeling than being able to show and support each other together.
Barbara and Missy show under the guidance of Dry River Ranch with Terry Cross and Stephen Stephens. The mother-daughter duo shows Gettin Hot and Krymsun Kryptonite in the western all-around events. Barbara has only been showing for six years after dedicating many years to being a show mom for Missy and her sister. Barbara’s first AQHA show was the Sun Circuit in 2017, but her first show with Missy was not until 2020.
“Now, I do not want to go to a show unless Missy is going,” Barbara says. For many reasons, showing together has been the highlight of Barbara’s show career thus far. In just three short years, she has been able to achieve success at many of the major circuits with Missy’s support.
“Missy has been showing a lot longer than me and I have learned so much from watching her,” Barbara says.
