Although her name might suggest otherwise, the beautiful filly Kenny Lakins showed this evening to a Congress Champion finish has a sweet soul and a kind spirit, in addition to some pretty fancy moves. Batt Attitude was named the Reserve Non Pro Congress Champion on Saturday with owner Pete Mead at the lead, behind the Congress Champion, Stanley Scott with I’m Looking For You. Today, the top two did a flip flop with Lakins leading “Addie” to the win and Kathie Kennedy coming in Reserve with I’m Looking For You.

According to Lakins, it’s Addie’s sweeping movement and sweet demeanor that gives her the extra edge over the competition. “We worked her 15 minutes last night, and she slept all day today,” he says. “She’s so quiet. We showed her at the Tom Powers Futurity, and she was second in the non-pro and third in the open. Then, at the NSBA World, she was second in the open and won the non-pro.”

Add to that the $1,710.83 Mead and Addie earned on Saturday, and this filly’s had quite a successful Congress thus far. Although she’s done competing, she may still earn her owner a bit of money, because she’s entered in the Congress Super Sale.

“I hope, if he does sell her, that she comes to my barn!” Lakins says. “Pete doesn’t really ever put horses in training. He loves raising babies, and he raises about four or five a year. What I really like about Pete is that he turns them out every day, and he doesn’t work them every day. He ponies them a little, and I think that means a lot.”

Interestingly, Addie is a half-sister to Mead’s former stallion, Hez Plum Poison, the 2011 Quarter Horse Congress Champion in Longe Line. The two share the same dam, Quiet Impulse. Lakins has only praise for this lineage saying, “She’s very free, very flowing, and real sweepy. She’s got a lot of forward motion, kind of like what we want in the Western horses.”

Third place in today’s class was Cole Baker with Strutinwithmybootson for Olivia Hoecker. Fourth place was Gil Galyean with Made The Ladies Look. Fifth place was Randy Haines with JBLL Wonder Woman.
