Dressed head to toe in electric green, Miss Kendall Hoffman certainly wasn’t afraid of the spotlight during her Congress debut in Small Fry Western Pleasure. This afternoon, 10-year-old Hoffman piloted her 12-year-old gelding, Rcees Version, aka “RC,” to win her first Congress Championship title in spectacular fashion.
It was a tight race to the end with Ty Terry aboard Machine Image coming in Reserve. Rounding out the top three was Emma Grace Gore aboard He’s Suddenly Handsom. We had the opportunity to chat with Kendall, who was all smiles and very excited for her interview following the class.
“I think RC did really, really good,” she says. “This is my first Congress year, and it feels awesome!”
Earlier in the show, Kendall and RC placed 11th in Small Fry Horsemanship as well. For her efforts in Western Pleasure, Kendall will receive a big check for $100. We wondered how she plans to spend all that dough… a celebratory dinner, a trip to Disney World, a new puppy perhaps? “I haven’t decided yet…” she says. As far as RC is concerned, he will retire to his stall for his favorite post-competition snack, ten oatmeal cookies.
Although Kendall was nervous when she entered the pen today, it helped to have her horse trainer, Kay Ungurean, on the rail to whisper a few words of wisdom and offer a thumbs up. Kendall’s favorite class to compete in with RC is Western Pleasure, for obvious reasons. “One of my favorite parts was pretty much when I got to win it!” she says.
Congratulations to all of these tiny competitors on their accomplishments today!
